Finding a rubber band to repurpose is not very hard to find. Rubber bands are used on many items. I often like to repurpose rubber bands used on produce that hold a bunch of broccoli, radishes, or asparagus together. Repurposing items are a great way to extend the life of the product and are often good for the environment. Let’s take a look at 10 ways to repurpose a rubber band.
10 Ways to Repurpose a Rubber Band
1. Traction to Open a Jar
We all have had that problem trying to open a jar. Sometimes you just need some extra traction or grip to get that pesky jar open. A rubber band can help. Just place the rubber band around the rim of the lid of the jar. A wider rubber band is better. That extra grip helps open slippery or stuck jar lids.
2. Keep a Book Closed
A repurposed rubber band is useful to keep a book from opening. Place the band around the book near the edge with the pages. It is helpful when transporting a book or packing it in a bag. It will prevent the book from opening and damaging the pages. It can also double as a bookmark.
3. Money Clip
A rubber band makes an excellent money clip. I prefer the kind used to hold broccoli together. If you have a wad of cash that needs to stay put, just wrap it with a repurposed rubber band.
4. Keep a Bag Sealed
This is a pretty obvious one. A rubber band is very effective in keeping bags sealed. It is also great for keeping that open box of pasta shut and fresh.
5. Wipe Your Paint Brush

Have you ever wiped the paintbrush along the lid of the can and watched drips run down the side of the can? Place a rubber band around the center of an open paint can. Wipe the brush against the band allowing any excess paint to fall back into the can. This will keep your project area and paint can clean.
5. Remote Control Protector
Wrap two rubber bands around the top and bottom of your remote control. This will help to prevent the remote from scratching the coffee table. It will also prevent the remote from sliding around.
6. Pencil and Pen Grip
Just wrap a few rubber bands around the base of your favorite pencil or pen. There you have it, an instant comfy grip for your writing implement.
Colored rubber bands can make a fashionable bracelet. Place as many around your wrist that you would like. Just make sure the bands are not to tight to cut off circulation.
8. Fix a Temporary Leak on a Hose
9. Unscrew a Stripped Screw
You can use a rubber band to help remove a stripped screw. Place a rubber band between the screwdriver and the screw head. It can give you enough grip to remove the screw.
10. Tennis Rack Vibration Damper

If you like to play tennis try tying a small rubber band on the bottom strings of your tennis racket to reduce the vibration. This will damper the strings and keep them from vibrating when hitting the ball. Many professionals use this method.
